Suitable Care of Garden Fountains

Many options are made long before garden fountains are mounted. What type of material they are constructed of, the design, surrounding greenery as well as its proper placement in the backyard area. With all of this work going in to its unit installation, it only makes sense that one would want to keep up with general maintenance to protect their invested money and time. Handling garden fountains is pretty simple, but it is constant. But suitable maintenance will ensure that the fountain is functional for a long time to come.

The water level in yard fountains must be watched closely. If the fountain won't maintain the proper water level the pump or other parts can dry out or become damaged. The water level should be checked at least twice per week. If chlorine, or some other additives, are added into the water, it needs to be checked much more frequently.

Thorough cleaning of garden fountains should be done at least once a month. When the fountain was purchased, the producer should have included a set of instructions on proper maintenance. These instructions should include how to properly clean the fountain and all of its parts. Following these directions correctly will ensure that the fountain gets cleaned the way it should be. Also included in the manufacturer's instructions should be some approved cleaning agents that can be used while not harming the fountain.

Retain any debris away from the fountain. The vegetation must be properly trimmed so that it does not hinder the flow of water. Ensure that you clean out any leaves or other types of debris. If the local weather causes a lot of wind it will probably need the debris cleaned out regularly.

If the garden fountain is outdoors in an area where temperatures are below freezing during the cold months of winter, it will need to be drained before winter sets in. Be sure to drain all the water from any functioning parts like the pump, drain and even the basin. If the manufacturer provided winterizing suggestions be sure to follow them accurately. Some may suggest that an anti-freeze of some kind be used to flush the pump out.

Maintaining garden fountains by performing scheduled maintenance tasks will ensure that they will be around to be enjoyed for a long time. Taking care of the pump or any other working parts will also help to save on expensive repair bills further down the road. Follow any special maintenance guidelines that are given by the manufacturer. Proper maintenance is the only way to ensure that garden fountains will be around to enjoy for a many years.
